The power of saying yes (sometimes). 90 second read.
May 2018 was the date I published my book. So what, you may think, but this marked the end of a chapter of my life.
First leaving a long term career, lots of travel and change, and a project to write about my experience, capturing what had happened, and pulling out what I’d learnt.
I put my heart and soul into this project, and it had become both a labour of love, and a personal mission to get it done. I’m sure most who have written and published a book know what I’m talking about here.
But what to do next?
At first, I convinced myself I would do more travel. You know – get back out there on an adventure. But, to be honest, I was no longer in the travel mindset.
A friend then asked me to do some gardening for her. At first I hesitated but I said yes and, lo and behold, I enjoyed the work. It was physical, simple, and rewarding.
I thought no more of it until her sister asked me to do some work for her. And then her friend. And then a neighbour. Then word seemed to get out…
What started as a one-off job progressed to 3 or 4 days work a week though one of the hottest UK summers on record. I went from gardening, to ground clearing, to landscaping, and topiary. It was hard work, but I loved it.
The philosophical side of me could wax lyrical about this, but I don’t think I need to. I’m sure the story speaks for itself.
Have a good day.
