It has been 4 months since I was here, and as I started to write out my experiences and memories (bad blogger!), I remembered a post I had written for the organisations website.
Why I had not posted this out sooner I do not know…..but you can view it here. Panthera Africa as a volunteer.
If you scroll down, it is titled ‘why panthera africa’.
Other than the words in the blog article, a few things still stand out from my time there:
- Falling asleep to the sounds of Lions roaring. Incredible!
- Helping to dissect a cow that had died and been donated. Interesting…
- Tossing a ponies head, and horses ribs, clearing a 10 foot fence, to feed a lion – no pressure, except being filmed for a Norwegian TV show….
- Helping build enrichment camps.
And because it really hit hard, the screening of blood lions and what goes on in the canned hunting industry.
There is a lot more I could write about this experience, but perhaps that is for later and in another format.
All in all, one of my best memories of South Africa, and if thinking of a volunteer project, or wanting an educational type visit that is not over the top, and happen to be in the Western Cape of SA, then I would strongly recommend.
What Cat and Liz have created, in such a short time, is incredible.
